A Week in Life: Monday & Tuesday
by Jess
Monday
Woke physically exhausted at 10:30 a.m. Light rain. Glass of milk, ten puzzle pieces. Took Dry Cleaning, Recycling and got groceries. That cashier was there again, and made me wait while she put all the bills in the same order again.Yogurt and 1/2 banana for breakfast at noon. Edit photos for awhile. Put away dishes. Recopy messy bulletin board shit.
dry cleaning bag to be reused as grocery bag, gym bag, recycling to take out. i hate this floor.
i buy milk in cartons, and this is as big as they come, and for some unknown reason they are only available in this fat percentage once a week, so I go buy a bunch of them at once.
i feel that these food items are grossly overpriced and i wanted to document it. wonder what it will cost us in Austin?
Go to gym. I do take the camera, but then chicken out of taking photos of it. I notice that all of the women wear very fancy thongs and matching bras, and I do not photograph this for good reason. I do leg weights and sprint drills on the treadmill, and marvel at how low cut some of the womens’ tops are.
my gym is on the top floor of a fancy department store downtown. sometimes i wander the home and kitchen floor before going home.
It smells very strong outside, not sure of what. Something burning.
My favorite home, just before turning down my street.
just a cute view i pass on the way from the gym to the bus stop. miss friend who lived above carousel.
Mid-day snack of carrots, crackers and apple. Edit photos – computer has massive breakdown. Search for peeler to start dinner. Feed cats. Spend 10 minutes unsuccessfully trying to get key to open basement door.
argh. fucking argh.
Jon arrives, opens door in one try. Make Mom’s Dijon chicken (he LOVES it mom) and carrot salad, eat with puzzle. Jon sells car!!! Put up announcements for cat online. Phone call from man who didn’t take him, now bringing his neighbor by to look at cat. Two pieces of good news – things we anticipated to be most stressful on list for moving.
Jon spends night on computer, fixing colossal mess. I Flickr stuff and do dishes. Read self to sleep to James Mitchner’s Hawaii now.
Postscript: Looking at this post, I realize, I have to do something about decorating, living space STAT once living in America. In two days I have realized that I do a tremendous job at ignoring the things I don’t like about our current living situation, and I am clearly flat out wonderful about focusing on the positive. However, the photos depress me. None of it says “me” or “home” possibly because we are loathe to put holes in the wall, cannot change anything and know we are moving. Still, that IKEA rug in the hallway? WTF?
Tuesday
Wake so sore, tired and irritable at eleven a.m. I wake up feeling like I was beat during my sleep these days.
woke to this sight. where did the mountain go??
not hungry. have large glass of milk. eat brunch later on of yogurt and fruit.
our bathroom, which does not have a toilet. it does have a washer, and a swiss prong, which is different than a european prong. the washer funtions as a shelf.
Jon and I pretty much have one shelf each in the medicine cabinet. Oh wait, he has two, I have one. Then we each have a shelf on the Ikea shelf. This is mine, with Sardinian ceramic plate filled with rocks I culled from Sardinian beach. I cannot put it anywhere else, because the cat would steal all of them for good.
Start laundry. Address emails, flickr (allow both spoiled cats to sit on my lap while doing so= then computer crashes again.
Our Terabyte came..whoo hoo! I am still in pajamas, at 1 p.m., working on photos.
While I am over here, literally, a corner of our apartment. Jon’s antique cheese grinder (family heirloom?) and brand new coffee bean mill. A drawing of mine. Birds from a creation his mother made for our wedding.
I wish I had more than one surface to put these items on
Study language. Never get to the French, will do it tomorrow.
fo burned off at 3 p.m. went for a run. didn’t go well. legs hurt so much. knee causes concern. Listen to Ray LaMontagne on repeat. Very excited to move to Texas. Always am when I run, when I choose music that lets me fastforward to being there.
Saw this on my run, so I ran upstairs, splashed water on face, grabbed bottle of water and camera and went out photographing.
Looking like this…
Oops. Forgot to show my face. It is sweaty though.
Afternoon snack eaten in the car because Jon wants to be picked up at last minute. Shower, change laundry, go get him a wet, frumpy mess with kiwi juice on jeans now.
Dinner of vegetables and pasta. Jon on computer the entire night, fixing the beast. Poor guy. I make care package for Cecilia’s Half Marathon. I reply to all emails, which takes a long time oddly. Jon goes to bed at 10:30. Blog and Edit photos from 10:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

While in Austin this past summer we priced out organic fruit at Central Market, it actually was not cheaper than Geneva… scary.
I love how Switzerland actually has THREE different types of plugs, depending on what part of the country you’re in. Also, is there such a thing as a European plug? I thought each country just made their own.
ray has a new album coming out by the way
