I am inching ever closer to getting my first Tattoo. I won’t share what it is until I have it, because the phrase has so much meaning to me, I actually feel I need to muse on it for months first and absorb its power. Come to think of it, it would be most.fitting to have it done while in Hawaii. That’s right. Snuck that in there, didn’t I! I will be going to Hawaii this year! Didn’t make it last year, and that’s okay. But the need is always fierce and I knew it wouldn’t wait much longer to be satiated.
In the meantime, I have a smaller, second tattoo lined idea in mind and it is two words. I won’t keep you in suspense on this one. I’d like n flowing script, either across my ribs or one word behind each ear (what, am I a glutton for pain?) The words are:
Daydream Believer
And that, my friends, I most certainly am.
I spend a lot of time Daydreaming. With a capital D. And frankly, I think the term, and the activity, both get a fairly unjustified bad rap. Granted, it used to get me in a lot of trouble. Put me anywhere near a window (French class, 7th grade; Ballet Lessons, 5th Grade; Any car ride ever where my friends try to engage me in conversation…) and I’m gone. But there’s a lot of worth in daydreaming. Your shallow, conscious, present-moment brain gets a little down time and your unconscious desires show up.
Many might say daydreaming about foreign travel and muscular men is a shallow activity. Well, for starters, both of those things make me insanely satisfied on a deep, spiritual level. They make my cells vibrate mmmmgoooodness back out into the world. So I mean, technically, it’s like I’m doing a good deed every time I travel or hang out in bed with my muscular boyfriend! So much happy energy going out at ‘cha! But I don’t just daydream about those things. I also have spent years daydreaming about how I might help other people. About how I’d show up in the world. About how I’d be seen, if I had any superpowers, and what it would feel like to have a book on a table in Barnes and Nobles. For the last three years, I’ve also been daydreaming fairly frequently about how to end up living each year in three different favorite and awesome locations.
Other people might scoff, “Why waste your time daydreaming?” “You should be concentrating on what is in your life,” they might counsel. But here’s the thing. I believe, without a doubt,
What you daydream is your life, waiting for you.
It’s a part of you, clearly, and a part of your present brain and life. You just haven’t experienced it outside of your body yet. And if you give up on those daydreams, you never will.
In that spirit, I’ll share that each year I spend most of January hibernating in my house snarling at the sterile Texas winter weather from under my favorite blanket and daydreaming about how many ways to make the year ahead freaking amazing. At some point, I started writing it into an alphabetical list and posting it on my blog. Why Alphabetical? Because I’m an anal list-maker, that’s why.
Sure, all the things on this list may not come to fruition this year. Big whoop. If even some of them do, I’ll have an amazing year. I want you to understand that I don’t stop here. I’ll daydream about all these things on a very frequent basis from now on. This part is important. You have to keep these dreams alive.
What we put our thoughts to, what we daydream on, is where our energy goes. And that is the very first, and the most important step, in seeing these fancies come true.
In the meantime, doesn’t it just feel gooood to visualize all this stuff in this year? Or would you rather be visualizing the amount of dishes? Your call!

So here is what I want YOU to do.
Make your own 2013 Daydreams list. It doesn’t have to be Alphabetical. It doesn’t have to be public, but if you blog it, will you let me know? Notice that my daydreams aren’t just places I am going or things I’ll accomplish? Some of my most important, and “come true” daydreams are the ones that describe a single moment or day in my life to com. Muse on that. Are there some feelings, single moments of bliss you would love to revel in this year?
Get to it!

I do the same thing in the month of January, hibernating, creating and putting my body in rest mode, because I know I’ll be revying up in the next several weeks. We have a few of the same things on our daydream list, it will be great to watch as yours expand along with mine. I love visiting here!
Great post. Love your list! Cant wait to see what you accomplish – I know it will be AWESOME!!!
