Who I Am…
I am a 25 year old American, living in Switzerland. I am now a 27 year old American, recently moved back to America after 2.5 years in Switzerland, along with my Swiss husband. He and I are expecting our first child at the end of July. We love this city that we chose to live in: Austin, Texas. It rocks.
I have worked as a Donut Froster, a Librarian, a Dishwasher, a Program Manager at a Fortune 500, and now, as a Photographer. My professional website can be found at: jessicamaier.com
I’ve lived in Texas, Hawaii, Indiana, England, Rome, Switzerland and now, back in Texas. My favorite activities are playing pool, horseback riding, hiking, eating sushi and picking out a new recipe to cook.
I’m addicted to learning about new subjects (my husband calls me a “permastudent”), traveling, photography, organizing, making lists, traveling, organizing travel…you get the idea. I love to read and I don’t feel guilty about spending money on books that I only read once: Seeing books pile up on a bookshelf is as good as art on the walls in my opinion. I like to read fiction, historical non-fiction, sociology and the odd book about neuroplasticity. I count my blessings just about daily.
This Blog Is…
This blog’s beginning coincided with a conscious decision to change my self and lifestyle. I decided to quit a job that made me miserable, change directions, and go looking for the good, sweet things in life. Since I have made that decision, life has rewarded me in love, travel and experience. That is what I share here. These are the desserts that I search for.
Occasionally, you will find In Search of Dessert listed under “food blogs.” This is not a food blog, though I do write about food. I have listed it as an Expat blog. However, it is not an Expat Blog, though I do write about that quite frequently as I now live abroad.
In Search of Dessert is a life blog – a place for me to document all the things in my life, and often in the lives of others’ (friend and stranger) that give me a taste of satisfaction and pleasure, which is my definition of “Dessert.” You will find recipes, photos, travel stories, musings of an Expat, thoughts on people and place. I hope you enjoy, and feel free to comment on anything that strikes your fancy.
